Missing item issue Amazon - Samejeff - 12-30-2021

So just received this from amazon.

Hello,

We’re sorry to hear that you haven’t received your item(s) from order # xxxxxxx

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience which this Order's missing item may cause.

I have checked and see that when we shipped the weight of the item was equal to the order and that is the reason please contact us again and include a PDF, JPG or PNG copy of the police report to the following address: uk-deliveryinvestigation@Amazon.co.uk. Please be sure to include key information including:

- The police report number regarding this incident
- Name of related station
- Crime Reference Number/URL of report/Reference number provided
- If reported to a local station over the phone: The name and badge number of reporting officer, and contact number of the station. Please note we are unable to accept 101 as a contact number to verify police reports.
- If reported to the police online: Provide a copy of the acknowledgement receipt email or reference number.
Please contact us back when the police report is complete. We are unable to accept police reports that are in “pending” or any other incomplete status.

Please note: to assist in obtaining a police report, we recommend that you provide a copy of this email to the police to help explain what has happened. We will happily cooperate with the police as part of any investigation. We will then validate the report with the local police force in question; for that reason, we are unable to accept reports filed with Action Fraud, as this is a reporting centre, rather than a local police force.

The item in question was some earbuds weighing 56grams, inclusive of the packaging it was 190grams. I said the manufacturer box was empty, so there would be a 56gram discrepancy on what their scales are showing, I thought that would be fine. Usually I'm not fussed about police reports etc but this one has me thinking I better just call the SE off. Thoughts?

56 grams will not be detected.

They're not always truthful about Investigations. Although a PR has no relevance to the claim, to keep It moving forward, go ahead and file It.

Police wouldn't issue a police report as they deemed it a civil matter not a criminal one. Amazon refuse to proceed with the claim without police report even though I told them it was impossible for me to get it.

Thinking I should just sealed box the return but wondering if that will now arouse suspicion and they will open the box when they receive it?

I can't fathom why Amazon fail to see that It's not a theft-related Incident, hence It doesn't warrant a PR.

Seriously, reps and the like In the claims department who cannot use common sense, should not be employed In that capacity. Ask the police officer to put It In writing that It's a civil matter, and then forward It to Amazon. If they're still adamant with their stupidity, request your claim be escalated.

The thing Is, Amazon has It on record that you've claimed the Item was missing.

If they refer to their notes, It'll be Impossible to justify returning a box that was never opened.

It's not even the reps fault on this occasion. She said she wanted to give me the refund but the system wouldn't allow her without a completed police report. I already asked to talk to her manager and she assured me it would be the same response. I've had this before from amazon where they literally cannot proceed without the document in their system. Not sure why.

Rather than going through the effort of contacting the police again I will just order the same item on a new account and sealed box the return. It was my original plan anyway, wish I'd stuck with it now. 2 for the price of one is better than nothing lol.

Thanks for your help as always mothered.

A police report should not have been requested to begin with, so she Is at fault.

In the absence of a PR, your refund would've been generated - which Is exactly what should've taken place under the circumstances.

Some reps handle claims at their discretion, thus you've got nothing to lose by requesting your claim be escalated.

Ultimately, It's your call.

Yeah I dealt with two different reps, first one was from India who I don't think understood I was telling her the manufacturers box was empty not the amazon box. Even though I reiterated it 3 or 4 times. Second one was from somewhere in Europe I think and was much more helpful and probably would have refunded on the spot.

I've been speaking to them through live chat though so it's generally going to be a different rep every time. I'll take this one on the chin and go to plan B. (Formerly A) lol.

No problem at all.

When you're ready, plan B will be effectively tackled.
