Argos Different Broken Item - HeardIt - 11-19-2021

Hi guys,

I've purchased a newer model of a broken item I currently have and had to pick it up via click and collect. They are virtually identical when looking at them and was wondering if it would be possible to switch the broken item for the newer one and then take it back to the store for a refund, stating that the item was defective?

If they accept it at the counter, would I have any issues going forward when they realise it's a different item?

EDIT: It's from my own account that I've made numerous purchases off of over the years and with my CC.

Cheers

Argos are pretty meticulous when checking returns.

Are there any Identifiable markings on the Item, such as a serial number/barcode? Also, what Is the Item?

If It comes to that, plead Ignorance by saying you've returned what they originally gave you.

It's a set of Sony XM4 headphones, and the broken ones are the XM3's. From what I can see there's not really anything on them apart from the model number on the headband, but was just hoping they never checked that instore, and if they did then just say that was exactly what I pulled out the box.

I've returned about 5 PS5 controllers to the same store with different Serial Numbers on the controller than what's on the box, and had no issues. So thought it would be a good place to try it out

Just to update, picked up the new ones this morning but haven't opened them.

Good move.

They both look very much alike. Is there any visible damage/wear and tear on the broken one?

That particular store doesn't seem to process returns with care, so It's well-suited to the method you're Intending to use.

What I normally do with In-store SEing, Is attend when they're Inundated with customers - namely late on a Friday just before close of business. As such, they're In a hurry to attend to everyone's needs, thereby tend to rush the return without thoroughly checking It.

Nope, the XM3s are basically brand new other than the fact one of them has a piercing screech when they're on.

My biggest issue is what might happen after they have accepted it and whatever it is they do with it back then. But I guess once it gets to that stage I should be in the clear

Perfect, It's good to go.

Who's to say that one of their employees didn't swap the Item?

Believe me, there's no cause for concern. You're simply a customer who's (seemingly) legitimately returned the original purchased Item.

Took them back, accepted them with no issues whatsoever. Refund has been issued and will be with me in 3-5 days. Biggrin

A job well done on your end.
