Don't forget about our dear boy Robin. If you want your character to have an established sexuality, do it when you create them. Waiting 80+ years just makes you look like a worthless pandering shill.

It's a crude marketing tactic and it definitely comes across half-assed. I'm all in favor of having gay superheroes or black women as spies, but it's not loyal to the source material.
The original creators are dead, so it's not like we'll hear their opinion.

Honestly i think they have a list of sexual orientations and just roll the dice. Just completely random in order to tick a few boxes.

Well said. I want people to read comics and identify with the characters, but is changing these characters the right way to do it? Or does it cause people to resent the community it's being aimed at?
There's never an easy way to make lots of people happy, and for them all to enjoy these comics in the same way, but I'm not sure this is the way to do it. Creating new badass characters that honour these communities might have been more fair.
