FTID weight change - RadicalShMeme - 09-05-2021

I recently had a refund done for me from amazon, a couple of apple products. I am trying to reverse engineer the method used so that I could SE myself, and I need some help to fill in the details of how they did it.

My understanding of the FTID method is that the labels are altered to remove addresses and certain barcodes, and fake advertisements are placed inside an envelope and sent to amazon. The warehouse throws it out as it is obviously spam, and the tracking shows as delivered. In a few weeks you contact amazon about the status of your refund, and since they don't have any package to find but tracking shows delivered, the refund is issued.

Heres what I don't get:
When tracking the return label, the weight matched the original weight, around 3.2 kg, through the whole shipping process. How did they manage to display the weight as that? If they sent out rocks in a box, then the company would notice, right?

What am I missing here?

Either 2 possibilities.
1) Pre-set weight when Amazon created the returns label. Even though there was just an advertisement inside the return package, the system shows 3.2kg as thats what Amazon generated the label as.
2) The person you paid did indeed put random junk inside to make the weight 3.2kg

You can't change the weight. Even if there were rocks then thats what Amazon received, they just couldn't link it to you due to the ftid label hence why they refunded you.

Btw what courier was it?
