Outcome of using fake serial number? - Magicfingers - 07-09-2021 Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone has tried using a fake serial number and playing dumb insisting that it's actually the serial number on their device. Of course you'd get a number that is quite similar to the real pattern. Even showing a receipt as proof (and blaming it on 'manufacturer error') How do y'all think that'll go? Any experience?
RE: Outcome of using fake serial number? - Madmanlugo - 07-09-2021 I have no experience with that, but I believe they would just shoot your claim down. Maybe mothered knows more about that? Maybe mothered knows more about that? You're right, there's a high chance that they'd reject it but then again there's always room for 'manufacturer's error'. If one stand firm on their word and provide other back up documents I believe there's a slight chance that it'd work out. Especially when you claim you bought the item from a third-party seller. Also waiting to hear @mothered 's experience/opinion. Given they don't have the device physically on hand, the serial number Is the only way they can verify the device and process the claim. Companies on a large scale such as Logitech, Lenovo and SteelSeries, will definitely require a valid serial, and that's what my previous post Is based on. It could trigger an investigation that could get the SE'er trapped especially if they are in the US.(07-10-2021, 02:39 AM)Magicfingers Wrote:Having said all that, I must say, you've come up with a very good Idea that may well work with companies who don't bother taking the extra step when assessing claims.(07-09-2021, 04:28 PM)mothered Wrote: ^ This. You're right. Each and every one has an element of counterfeiting. I'm working on this exact method and I'll will give an update on the results. I'm not in the US so there's little to no risk for me
