Miku Banned on Twitter: Age Restrictions - Jiggly - 06-12-2021

This is hilarious. Twitter has had to implement age restrictions in line with GDPR, so no account user should be under the age of 13. Of course, not all accounts relate to people, as many are of fictional characters and/or organisations. The official account for Hatsune Miku was suspended, as one of the English admins for the account attempted to set her birthday to the year she debuted: 2007.

Quote:As of this time of writing, the account lock has been lifted, though the account's birthday has been permanently set as the admin's birthday.

After updating its terms of service in 2018 in compliance with GDPR, Twitter has started locking accounts whose users are suspected to be underage at the time of the account's creation. Since then, a number of accounts have received suspensions over attempts to set the accounts' birthday, including Crunchyroll's official account in 2019 and even ANN's official account just recently:

This is what happens when you put bots in charge and cannot differentiate between people and fictional characters/organizations.

In fairness, how they hell are you going to monitor millions upon millions of accounts without bots?

However, there should be a decent enough support team to rectify this issue. The Miku account should not be stuck on some random person's birthday. How ridiculous is that?!

Twitter must include special accounts for fictional characters. So that wouldn't violate their companies policy in future.
