Japan's 47 Prefectures Pick Their Favorite Anime Set in Their Local Area - Oni - 12-21-2020

Many anime are set in non-fictional prefectures in Japan. Surveys were done asking residents which anime they preferred most, out of the ones set in their local area.

My favorites off of the list were Summer Wars, your name, and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I've been wanting to watch Golden Kamuy for a while.

Quote:On Friday, the Sony Life insurance company released its yearly data report on the 47 prefectures of Japan. The report includes survey data of residents' favorite anime series set in their local area. Pop culture website Futabanet released the survey results below:

Futabanet highlighted how both mainstream anime titles such as Sazae-san and Crayon Shin-chan are represented on the list, along with anime that have recently promoted pilgrimage visits such as Laid-Back Camp and Zombie Land Saga. It also pointed out that the reason why the Miyazaki Prefecture did not have a representative anime is because only two television stations are available in the prefecture, making it very hard to watch anime there.

It is not as if the prefecture is entirely lacking in anime representation; Miyazaki is briefly depicted in a field trip episode from Hanasaku Iroha - Blossoms for Tomorrow.

I had no idea so many shows were based on/set in real places. That's actually really epic. It's a shame I haven't known enough about Japanese places to really appreciate the settings. I'd imagine shows set in my locality or places I've been would have a different impact. I'd certainly have a better appreciation for these settings!

Surprised Persona 4 wasn't picked for Yamanashi prefecture. The game was very popular and known for showing Inaba, but maybe the anime wasn't.

New Old Samurai theme anime, have done detailed study about Japan's history and try to bring back Japan from the time period. Great way to remember the history and people feel more connected when the see the story happening in places they know and relate.
