Google - manny8975 - 11-02-2020

Hello,

I am returning a phone to Google but they do not know it has physical damage (they wouldn't accept the return if they did). So I plan to SE them into replacing the phone anyway, I chose the advanced replacement option (hold charge, they send new phone out prior) but I'm unsure the best way to go about it. I was thinking of returning the phone and acting as if it was damaged in transit (backed up by a photoshopped image), although I'm not sure this is the best option. I'm also considering doing the bog standard dry ice method.

Item weight is roughly 200g
Packaged weight is 350g ish

If you need anymore information let me know, cheers.

What's your reason for the return?

Defective battery, which it actually has. I smashed the phone after the battery broke which is pretty unfortunate, hence why I'm here asking how to SE them.

To be clear I'm not SE'ing them in the 'normal' sense, I just want to return a phone I actually own that has physical damage. Hope that makes sense.

Since its smashed they definitely won't believe you if you say its damaged in transit, they'll just blame you for not packing it carefully.

So it means your only option is a box/ftid.

They've provided me with a tracking label and box already, but I think you're right I'll probably box them. Think I'll wait on mothered for his opinion before I send it.

I had the sealed box method In mind, however given you've stated It has a defective battery (I was hoping you didn't), It will give them reason to check the return.

Under the circumstances and as mentioned above, boxing Is your best option.

Thank you. Any specific suggestions on the boxing method to use? Dry ice, postal packing items?

Or does it not really matter

200 grams Is a little too heavy without adding a weight substitute. Of course, that's based on the company opening an Investigation and cross-checking the consignment.

Given Its pretty light, not much dry Ice would be needed. Moreover, It will definitely sublimate by the time the package reaches Its destination, so this will be the way to go.

Was kinda hoping you wouldn't say that, lol. No dry ice to hand and can't really afford to wait any longer to return the phone. Would postal worker items be sufficient, or would I be better paying for a dry ice boxing service maybe?

Thank you for your help by the way.

No need for dry ice for that amount. And if you know about ftid then do that. If you don't then just box em normally.
