Chromebook uses Chrome OS, which uses linux, there's even a mode in chrome os to boot in "linux mode"
Chromebook aren't targetted as much since most people are on WIndows or Mac, but it doesn't mean that it is malware-free, malware devs would probably prefer making malwares on Windows or Mac OS because there the biggest OSes around
