Unsuccessful for the first time - lkunt - 09-17-2020

Hi all,

I've been lurking around here for a few weeks now and finally decided to make an account.

I've been refunding for years and have just been denied for the first time.

The item was a pair of apple AirPods Pro. I simply told them they weren't in the apple box but they have said they have proof they were in there and that I need to dispute this with the b4nk as they will not take any further action for this.

As that was on live chat, I am going to give them a call and try to sort it out as I'd rather keep the b4nk refund for a bigger item in the future;
can anyone give me any advice? Plan is to call them and go pretty wild whilst sticking to the same story.

Thanks

Share store name? Did you ask for the supposed proof?

Yeah agree. Seems a waste for a chargeback - you can always return for a refund too.

Argos brother, had someone pass it straight away so am very surprised I got rejected.

Not really, they kinda just said apple weighs it all before they send items and supposedly that's their proof. Theres no weight on the delivery parcel hence im going to argue that.

I've opened them now as its been over a week that I was waiting for an investigation so couldn't return them used haha.

Im not sure how that constitutes proof through the weight that would say the device isn't broken, even though photographic proof has been provided. From my understanding of Argos, I've only done them one a long time ago and it was quite difficult then. I believe they have a CCTV system in place which would show a sealed box - I guess the reason payapl was asking for the box was that they wanted to ask whether the box looked tampered with - should've pulled a picture of a tattered box too.

I also believe (will hopefully be confirmed by another member), Argos has an agreement with PayPal that will deny all claims pretty much immediately as they want you to deal with them directly. Hence this could be one of the reasons.

I would get on the phone with Argos. Stick to your story. See what they say - that is pretty much all hope you have left with this. You could also return it through a store if you haven't destroyed it yet.

Advice on the side, never open and even worse, use an item before a refund is confirmed. In this case, you may still be able to get out of it by returning the item in store.

Spoke to them on the phone, the guy was quite sound tbh. He was no help though he said as he's only an advisor and he will just get backlogged or something, he didn't agree with how the fraud team handled it but said it's best to chargeback through my b4nk. Absolute bs haha, don't really wanna go through my b4nk what do you think?

He's getting them to email me regarding what evidence they have as he even agreed its a joke they said they have proof I have it but haven't shown evidence.

Will keep updated

Yeah I think its a waste chargeback. You could always buy another pair eg. off John Lewis, amazon etc. Refund it, then return the pair to Argos in store?

Final decision is yours of course

Argos have cameras which can see what the box has inside it before dispatch. That is maybe how they are so certain of their case.

I believe he's saying that It's not worth performing a chargeback.

I'm gonna see as I've already made my point clear that I haven't got them so don't think I could return them, will potentially take the L once I see the evidence that they've got proof.

Unfortunate, think a chargeback will be better for a bigger SE.
