Space dandy - Jusluvn - 09-01-2020
Anyone else ever watch this?

Such a good one but seems like it was slept on. Or I just know the wrong people lol
RE: Space dandy - Oni - 09-02-2020
I've actually been re-watching this while playing Elite Dangerous.
I'm a big fan of Watanabe's, but Space Dandy is a bit atypical for him. A lot of the episodes build up a really nice plot, only for it to be satirized or made fun of in the end. The style and choreography is definitely Watanabe's, but it's more of a comedy. Space Dandy isn't as serious as his other hits, like Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo. Maybe that's why it's less popular, but I'm not sure.

This is such a perfect description. There's some Uber deep themes touched upon in Space Dandy, but they're quickly made fun of and twisted into comedy just in time for the episode to end. Then the next episode moves onwards into a totally different theme. Fascinating show.
I'd never have gone near it if it weren't for Oni.

Space Dandy is definitely one of my favorites, but Cowboy Bebop is #1 for me.
Spoiler:
In a couple of episodes of Space Dandy, they use the "woolong" currency, implying Cowboy Bebop and Space Dandy are in the same universe/multiverse. Also, the fridge monster...
