Currys UK Wrong Item Received? - Fastera - 07-14-2020

Hello fellow SE'rs. I am planning a SE on Currys UK utilising the "Wrong Item Received" method. I wanted to double check a few things with you before I go ahead since so far I have only "worked" with Amazon UK.

My plan would be to obtain (bought from my brother in law with his payment method and  delivered to his address aka in no way shape or form linked to me) a product bought from Currys. I will then purchase what I want from Currys and upon receiving the parcel will contact PayPal and open a dispute for wrong item received. When they (PayPal or Currys) want proof I would be happy to supply it as the wrong item in question is in fact in my possession (purchased by my brother in law) and bought from Currys. In case I need to send the wrong item back (I view this outcome as very likely) I will do so and request a refund rather than replacement.  I think this should work in theory. What do you think about this? What have I overseen that I should plan better around or perhaps change altogether?

Couple more questions:
I plan to order two of the items in question. They are the size of a palm and would easily fit in one box. I would assume they will arrive in one box as I would have simply ordered two. The items I will claim to have received will be the same size. Does that make it more difficult? More likely to fail due to the fact that there are two items?
Do you know if Currys have a system which monitors what is put in each shipping box? I have read around here that Argos has one and claiming wrong item received would lead to unsuccessful SE.

Few things to clarify.
1. I am not involving my brother in law without his full knowledge of what I am about to do. He is more experienced SEr than me and has shown me the ropes around Amazon so his involvement is with his knowledge and interest to "see what happens". In his view my plan is solid but your input is appreciated.
2. I want to pay with PayPal as I feel like I will have higher chance of success that way (sounds funny I know). Seemingly most SEs on Currys are done using PayPal.
3. The reason for contacting PayPal for the wrong item received is due to the fact that on the Currys website they state for returns "... for PayPal orders our stores can only offer an exchange or gift c.ard." I am not sure if that is if I walk into the store to return an item I have purchased online and paid for via PayPal (I read it this way),  or for any order I have placed and paid for via PayPal (sounds highly unlikely). Also as per 2. most SEs on Currys (if not all) are done using PayPal.
4. Item in question is under 100gr (not sure exactly how much including its original box) but that is not of much use as the wrong item I will claim to have received is of identical weight and size including original packaging. So in terms of shipping weight this should be covered.

Thank you for your help, it is appreciated!

It is a SSD and the weight listed on the manufacturer's site is 62g. Same on Currys site.

It's around the same weight as AirPods, which have a high success rate with the missing Item method.

You can certainly opt for this method.

As in not bother with wrong item and just do an EB/missing item? I was thinking of that as well but I was betting on the safe side, preparing for all possibilities so that I have a plan Smile

Do you happen to know if Currys monitors in any way what is being put in its shipping boxes?

Thank you.

I always recommend to SE using the method you're most comfortable and confident with.

Both methods are well-suited, so It's your call.

I know for a fact that Argos has CCTV cameras monitoring orders that're picked & packed, but I'm not sure whether Currys does the same.

Your Not As Described plan sounds perfect. Nicely thought out, well done. I would honestly add a couple more of the items that you're planning on buying. Don't worry too much about the return parcel being the identical weight.

I think PayPal might ask you for a police report if you say EB. I could be wrong of course. That being said I would definitely recommend Not As Described.

Edit: me personally, saying the wrong model/size of the same item arrived works best. For example, Buying a phone but saying you received a microwave is a bit farfetched if you know what I mean.

Thank you for all the info. I think I will go ahead as planned, seems like a decent plan.

Thank you. Indeed buying a phone and saying you have received a microwave is asking for trouble though would certainly lead to amusing conversation. I have settled for two as the total price would be close to £1,900. For first time outside of Amazon I think that is as big as I want to go Smile
In terms of the item as I said it is a SSD and I will claim to have received the wrong model (same brand and packaging , different capacity) so it would not look ridiculous.

Will do so. I have already placed my order so things are underway.
