Amazon.fr DNA callback - durden666 - 07-09-2020

I have a primary Amazon.co.uk account that I've used for years with no issues. Last DNA on it was exactly a month ago for £700.

I have recently opened a amazon.fr account with the same email so they are linked in a way. I bought two items totalling around £600 and straight after two low value items £20-50. The two high value items came in the same delivery, and no one answered the door, driver got shouted at, that someone will come to the door in a second, but no one did for 5 minutes so he left the boxes and walked away. 5 minutes later the door was opened and packages brought inside, however simultaneously the driver happened to walk by on the opposite side of the street and see this happening, this acknowledged the person bringing the two boxes inside. I have since then contacted Amazon.fr on live chat stating it did not arrive. The rep offered a free replacement however I said I want a refund as I've purchased the item's elsewhere already so do not require a replacement. The rep proceeded to say that he wants to call me, I gave him my number without the UK dialing code therefore he could not get through. And kept insisting on a phone call. Proceeded to say that a colleague will attempt to call me today again.

This seems like quite unusual behaviour from them. Has anyone experienced it, and is it an issue to have them call me? Also I do not speak french, have been using Google translate, so this might seem fishy to them.

This Is nonsense.

I don't understand why the rep was able to approve a replacement using live chat, but couldn't do the same for a refund. What can be said over the phone that can't via live chat?

We could be seeing a new tactic from amazon, unlikely. anyway, that's why no one likes the French

It seems to be a new tactic. From amazon's point of view, when a buyer doesn't want a replacement but instead wants a refund it is deemed highly suspicious.

My advice is to live chat them again, and possibly again (to get a different employee). As a last resort you should email them. Or simply accept their offer of a replacement and then return the replacement.

Perhaps, but what could possibly be gained over a phone call that cannot be done via chat? They're both a similar means of communication that effectively serve the same purpose- real time conversation.

I'm not directing this at you. I'm just at a loss as to why they're Insisting on the call.

That was my train of thought also, I had never heard of this happening before this became rather suspicious and thought I'd double check. Also I was wary of not actually knowing French and ordering from .fr as I thought that might be suspicious. I have no issue having a phone call, if anything its raiser to SE over the phone. As you can utilize different tones etc. It all helps to succeed.

- if you prepared adequately anyway.

Regardless, I just waited 24hours and got another rep who kindly refunded me. So not an issue. Still weird how two different ones wanted to call me....

I fully agree.

When further developments come to hand, please quote me. I'm very Interested to read their reasoning (or lack of) pertaining to the phone call.

Hi, would you kindly let me know if chatting in the French Amazon requires you to do so in French? If so did you use google translate?

Of course. If you don't speak a word of French use Google translator or ask some help to somebody who is able to speak French.

Technically you could be a tourist on holiday and so speaking English is fine (most of the employees are outsourced anyways who speak multiple languages) but Google translate seems to be the best option to take.
