John Lewis - Royal Mail Corona?! - chazamunns - 04-07-2020

Good morning all,

Hope your all doing well? I made an order from John Lewis of around £400ish - It's come today and I didn't need to sign for it but on the box it specifically says signature needed.

I'm guessing with this Corona Virus that Royal Mail are signing themselves maybe?

Where do I stand on this and what would be the best method for this? I'm thinking DNA but I physically took the parcel off her hand and don't want an angry postie coming to my door..

Thanks again folks

If It Is In fact related to the COVID-19 virus and the driver was complying with "social distancing", I don't see why she didn't ask you to sign when the package was "handed to you".

It was "her choice" not to request a signature, so as far as you're concerned, you didn't personally accept the package.

By no means should the postman/woman have directly handed anything to the OP.

Please see the Royal Mail's website: It isn't a "choice" so much as orders from the higher ups at Royal Mail.

Royal Mail coronavirus practices

So far as I'm aware, all other large delivery companies are doing the same in the UK. Most have updates on their websites relating to this if you want to check.

In terms of SEing, I need to keep up-to-date with the latest developments, thus I research company and carrier policies on a regular basis.

There are quite a number of carriers that're following social distancing measures. DHL & FedEx at my workplace, seem to do as they please- some drivers go about their duties as per usual, whilst others simply drop off packages and sign their manifest themselves. As such, every SE using the DNA method that's requesting assistance pertaining to carriers, Is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

I didn't think John Lewis used Royal Mail. Anyway, they are aware that a small number of people will try and take advantage of the COVID-19 situation and they will reject your claim as the postman is allowed to sign for the package due to the circumstances.

They most certainly do.
