John Lewis upc question - goldengeneration - 03-11-2020

Hi all, I’m attempting to SE John Lewis using wrong item method. I’ve ordered a new Apple Watch 5 and will send back an Apple Watch 3 which is unopened but bought from another retailer. The weight and size of the box is a little different but the weight on the parcel states 1kg which of more than the boxed item weighs so I’m pretty sure it was rounded up and not accurate to the gram.

My question is this, I understand that these retailers won’t store the serial numbers at point of sale, however the watch’s have UPC codes which aren’t unique to the item but assigned as a batch and not to all watches made of that model. So will JL clock on that the watch wasn’t bought from their store? ( they do stock it tho)

Thanks in advance all

Quote:The weight and size of the box is a little different
You're SEing the "Item" and not the entire package, hence It's the weight of the Item that's of relevance.

If they scan the return with the Intention of placing It back In their Inventory, they may Identify that It's not their stock.

That’s what I initially thought. However. After speaking in some detail with an overly helpful clerk, I was informed that they do not keep note of the serial numbers of electrical item. They only have generic but not unique UPC codes.

Only concern I have is that this UPC code is not recognised.

The UPC code will be scanned when dispatched, and the Item will be deducted from their Inventory against the code Itself.

If they scan the return and the UPC code doesn't register as a sold Item, then they'll realize that It's not theirs.
This Is on the grounds that they do In fact follow this procedure.

Just put watch 3 in the 5 box. They'll scan it quickly, open it see a watch and think none the less.

@goldengeneration, have you moved forward with the SE?

I was thinking to do the same thing but as the watch 3 is already in my name I’m concerned it will track back to me?

Not yet, I’m contemplating not attempting it

What are your thought Mothered?

What's the exact weight of the watch that you're planning to SE?
