Windows 10 Home Update Issue - Streetspeed10 - 03-08-2020
I have been trying to do updates on m moms computer for her. I spent a couple hours doing driver updates and making sure everything else is up-to-date before I tried updating her computer from the 1803 version to the 1909 version. After that was done, I then tried and failed a few times trying to get it to take the update. I tried with the download tool you can get from the Microsoft. I tried and failed with it three times. So, I moved on to looking around the internet for ideas. I found one website, https://pastebin.com/bBw0Avc4 , that allows you to choose which one you would like to install. These are directly from Microsoft. I tried doing the 1909 update with this and it failed. Then I had an idea to go through the each update. I tried the 1809 update and the 1903 update after it failed and got this specific error for both. "0xC1900101 - 0x30018 The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP_SPECIALIZE operation". I'm getting very irritated with this not working. I've tried using Windows upgrade troubleshooting tool, which claimed to have fixed a couple of errors it found, but did not work with the update either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The good old updates are renowned to fail at the best of times, thus I don't bother wasting my time.
Why not hit a clean Installation of Windows? If you're organized, you'll be up and running within the hour.

It's my mom's and she's got a ton of stuff on it she doesn't want to loose. I mentioned doing that and making a copy of her drive as it is now, but she doesn't want to lol. I was in jail when the OS updates for the last two came out or I would have done them for her then. She doesn't really know how to do anything else other than email or play on Facebook and Instagram. So, I try to keep her computer up-to-date for her. It's an old HP pavilion 17 laptop. Not the greatest, but it serves her needs. I'll just keep messing with it and hope it will eventually work.

In terms of the update Issue, are both the "Background Intelligent Transfer" & "Windows Update" services actively running?

I'm going to try doing the 1809 update, then 1903, and so on. Probably won't work ether, but it's worth a shot. Gotta love the troubleshooting part of IT work. That's why I could never be a programmer. Hours and hours of searching for the one error in the coding and ten minutes or so to fix it. I'd get far too frustrated and take a bat to the computer I'm using lol.

Something I started thinking about while sitting here watching the update process. Whenever it is running the pre-install stuff, it checks for Windows updates. I wonder if this could possibly be the reason for the issue I'm having? Is there any way to stop it from checking and/or trying to download and install any other updates from Windows while I'm trying to install the update to the OS?
