I've always used SMTP, and never encountered Issues with bulk emailing.
Have you tried It?

nope, am yet to try it, i heard it doesnt last long, what volume of mail can it send out before it gets detected, thousands or millions ?

As webmaster i can say that roundcube is not a good for that (because is just a webmail with some limitations rather than squirellmail or rainloop), just use SMPT with some automated scripting language, trust me, is better

There's too many variables, hence It's not possible to provide an estimate.
It depends on the SMTP service, the nature/context of the mail and so forth.

It depends on the SMTP service, the nature/context of the mail and so forth.
Even the receiver server can influence under the result.

Our mass mails are done via SMTP.
