I have heard such news waves so many times and when I was going to search for the solution most of the tech geek bloggers suggest try to use VPN especially when you're connecting public Wifi, so you can protect your devices a/c to their opinion. Well, I'm also using dedicated VPN router and connect all my devices through that easily to stream different platforms

Viewing the traffic of a device on a local network is very easy. All you need is Wireshark. If you don't know how to use the program, there are dozens of good ones on YouTube.

It's always good practice to use a dedicated device when connecting to a public network, solely for that purpose and nothing more.
Be sure there are no Identifiable details on the device (personalized directories, sensitive account logins etc), with only the bare essentials/necessities Installed and running as per their default state.

ettercap arp poison sniff only remote host then run ferret-sidejack use same interface that your sniffing with on ettercap run hamster and set proxy on browser to match hamster

Wireshark is a great solution
