SE'ing lenovo and more - Jerban - 01-14-2020

So im in the middle of trying to SE lenovo for a laptop, i explained i plugged it in and it overheated and smelt badly burned and disposed it for health hazards. The rep asked me to dive the container to RMA it to them because they want to repair it. So far i habe told them it was gifted to me and I got a serial number with active warranty.

I said i went to dive the dumpster but didnt find it because it was emptied waiting for reply. If they wont budge i am considering Box or dry ice, but i dont know a lot about dry ice.

Advice would be appreciated.

I'll simplify the dry Ice method as best I can.

You obviously need to match the weight of the laptop by using dry Ice. It sublimates (turns to carbon dioxide) during transit, hence when the package Is received, there will be no visible signs of the dry Ice nor any remnants. Evidently, the package must have an appearance consistent with tampering.

Cool but before I go put my bare hands on dry ice, do you know more about it?

I can get it 1 kg pr. Block, do you place it in the box just like that?

Given dry Ice Is frozen carbon dioxide, It's quite cold so to prevent detection during transit, I suggest to place packaging around It.

From memory, It's surface temperature Is between minus 110-115 degrees Fahrenheit. The good thing about It, Is that It doesn't liquefy, but rather turns/sublimates to "gas" (carbon dioxide) and that's what makes the dry Ice method so effective,

I agree it does seem pretty decent to bypass shipping stuff in, but if you pack stuff around while it become gas, wont you need ventilation for it to escape rather than explode.

I like the method a lot but i got a few stickypoints in order to use it without it

1. Being detected and reported
2. Nobody can get hurt.

So I believe i can Conclude that a simple box wont suffice, i need a layer inbetween that Will prevent whomever handling it being frostburned or notice the gas slip out.

Ventilation simply allows dry Ice to sublimate quicker. If packaging Is placed around It, expect a slower sublimation.

The package Is not "air tight", hence the probability of exploding Is not likely at all- It will still ventilate. If need be, a small Incision on the package that's just enough to allow more ventilation, yet not to a degree where It's noticeable, will suffice.
