Never done it personally but from what I've heard be careful. You'll want multiple layers of other packing on the outside to be sure that the courier doesn't realize that there is dry ice inside. I have heard of people being banned from FedEx for this.

In my experience, FedEx Is very observant with their handling of packages.

They predominantly tend to raise damage reports with the slightest Inconsistency, hence (as you've mentioned) extra care must be taken when preparing a given shipment.

I haven't personally experienced Hermes, but If you carefully prepare the package as per @C8Stingray's post above, you should be fine with the dry Ice method.

The majority of carriers have a set run with deliveries, meaning they must deliver ex-amount of packages and (where applicable), fulfill time slots. Taking this Into account, Friday Is the busiest day of the week and If you can time the delivery on that day, they're less likely to have the time to thoroughly check each and every package.
