Security Camera - bapexsupreme - 12-11-2019 I'm looking to get a security camera outside my house. Would like for it to be wireless, accessible on my phone, clear picture, night vision, motion sensor that gives me an alert on my phone once it detects it. I was looking at the Ring Camera outside wireless but would like to see if the community has any other suggestions. Not looking to spend much just want something functional with the basic features. RE: Security Camera - Oni - 12-12-2019 Ring is pretty neat and I know several people that use it. As far as I know, it has all of the features you're seeking. Only negative thing I've seen is the possible privacy implications. RE: Security Camera - mothered - 12-12-2019 My parents Installed cameras not too long ago and the quality of the footage, particularly night vision, Is magnificent. They did however, spend over 2k, so It all depends on your budget. Next time I pay them a visit, I'll take note of the manufacturer. RE: Security Camera - Drako - 12-12-2019 I'm not sure what cameras my parents installed, but I have seen the image quality. I will say it's really nice. I'll update my post if I can figure out what they have. As for most people, a Ring camera is great. I did however see a couple in the news today, and their camera apparently "got hacked". They just didn't know how to properly setup the camera. An Indian guy figured out the default password. But as long as you aren't a celebrity, or someone with a constant target on your back, it's just someone looking for entertainment. Moral of the story, make sure your cameras aren't vulnerable! RE: Security Camera - Jiggly - 12-12-2019 I suppose the recommendations are to protect your security camera setup as much as you would anything else. As others have mentioned, ring has all the features you're looking for, but it is becoming widely used. On another note, I'm aware there are social media pages dedicated to sharing risks in the local area. For example, they may share video footage from ring. It can be of a person outside their door and they go on to explain that individual was dodgy or posed a risk somehow. This can also be an amusing way to see what "intelligence info" is being shared of people stealing parcels etc. RE: Security Camera - mothered - 12-12-2019 (12-12-2019, 04:55 AM)Drako Wrote: An Indian guy figured out the default password. As with every device, It's not difficult at all to obtain the manufacturer's default password. Given It's not set by the owner, It's available to anyone who requests It. Call the company as though you own the device, and simply ask for It. RE: Security Camera - bapexsupreme - 12-12-2019 Thanks for the information guys. Not trying to spend $2k on a camera right now maybe when I get my own place would like for it be well secured for now my budget would be is $200 or less. Just looking to get 1 Security camera. Right now still leaning towards the Ring outdoor camera wireless. Heard lots of good reviews about it only thing i've heard recently is they can he hackable and people can spy on you. Would be worse to have 14 year olds yell racial slurs at you: https://globalnews.ca/news/6282895/ring-camera-hacker-racial-slurs/ The devices are only as secure as your Ring account. These people are compromising Ring accounts using passwords from other databases. Meaning, if you use the same password everywhere, your device could easily be compromised. Just takes one data breach. It depends what you want to monitor. Based on your needs, 200$ may well and truly suffice. With my parents, It's a bit of an overkill- surveillance on every angle of the premises, Inclusive of the pavement and traffic areas surrounding the home. Yeah if I do get the ring i'd make sure the information will be different. Only need 1 camera outside my house pointing at my car to keep an eye on it. I just need 1 camera outside my house pointing at my vehicle that's park at my parents house. When I get my own place I would like to have a well more secured security all around the house but for now just need a security camera for my vehicle. |
