Yes, this should work, I did the same method, but the partial item was socks and my items were Samsung earbuds. May take a couple of days, however.

No, simply tell them that you've received the package, opened the box, however the Item was not enclosed.

Also mention that this was supposed to be a birthday gift for your nephew, and you're quite distressed about not being able to provide It on time.
