Irrespective of scan reports, I suggest to always run tools of this nature In a controlled environment.

I wouldn't trust new users with any downloads. Executables and PDFs are mainly the issue though. It doesn't take much effort to infect those file types. As long as you run them in Sandboxie, or another controlled environment you should be OK.

That said, viruses can bypass virtual environments, hence It's good practice to have a dedicated system (segregated from the network) with a VM Installed and Sandboxie running In the virtual machine. Every file must be executed In Sandboxie. In the event the host system Is Infected, there's nothing to lose- just an hour or so performing a clean Installation of the OS.
