BlackArch WM - Vultra - 09-20-2019
Hello all,
I would like feedback on peoples thoughts about BlackArch. Yes, I'll be using it as a tiling windows manager as I hate GNOME and the other shit.
It's an OS that I would like to have as a PERMANENT system as, I'm kinda tired of gaming and, rather do CTF.

For day-to-day use, I typically recommend Debian and avoid derivatives or pre-packaged applications. That said, it seems a lot like Kali (Debian-derivative), so that may be good for people that want a pre-packaged Arch-derivative. Arch still classifies itself as "bleeding edge", so I wouldn't recommend it for day-to-day use, and there could be security implications.

Fair enough. I'm currently looking over Manjaro i3.

Well i use Arch with I3 and i include Black Arch's repo in my install.
On assessments it's really practical since everything you need is in there.

Black Arch? You mean the "hacking tool" that defeats the purpose of building an Arch machine or keeping a small pile of pentesting tools around at the same time?
I don't see any situation where I need 2000+ hacking tools on an OS that doesn't have to be Arch.

I'm currently using arch linux with i3 ( even tho i might migrate to dwm ) and do offensive security quite often. I don't actually see the need to install black arch as your main distro, since it defeats the whole purpose of a minimal install. If you need tools for "hacking" just download the ones you need or create a VM with kali and do your stuff there.
If you need any help setting things up or want to share some minimalist tools, PM me.

I get lazy setting up the i3 rice. Like, I download polybar but, the config file isn't there and etc. I'm gonna do it all in a vm then on my physical disk.

Same page (but Debian). I do see the incentive if you're in a rush and need pre-packaged stuff, but minimalism and longevity are the main reason I don't use derivatives.

past couple of days, switch to Arch i3 -> parrot -> ubuntu -> parrot -> windows. I'm saying fuck it and, buying more ram.

( I think polybar comes with some default configs, however you can find a lot of config files for it on the web)
