New to Programming, Where do I begin? - mozfan4life - 05-18-2019 Hello! I have always wanted to explore the world of programming/coding and I figured I need all the help I can get. I am a seasoned graphic artist with minimal knowledge in programming. Before I get into it, I would like to get any suggestions from veteran coders to see what would be the correct way to start and what languages should I learn and in what order (if any) to make all this possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated (links to guides, tutorials, how to's). If this is of any help, I would like to be able to build interactive websites as well as maybe gain knowledge in programming apps. Thanks!! RE: New to Programming, Where do I begin? - mothered - 05-18-2019 Thread moved from the Introductions forum to Coding. RE: New to Programming, Where do I begin? - q0xd - 05-18-2019 Well, I'm no veteran so take my advice with a grain of salt. First, HTML & CSS. After those, PHP, SQL & JavaScript. Good to also know Git. ![]() Start small, with just a simple website. Think about features to add to your website and learn as you go. For example: Simple page > Draw a layout and recreate it > Add a HTML form with simple PHP (like assign random number to variable and echo it out when you press 'ok') > Add a JavaScript alert after every click > Create SQL database & use PHP to connect to it > Save every random number to DB > ta-da! Facebook If something doesn't work out the first time, don't get demotivated. You can always open up a tutorial or use google. That is actually a very good advice RE: New to Programming, Where do I begin? - Hutsom - 05-18-2019 (05-18-2019, 11:35 AM)mozfan4life Wrote: Hello! IT IS A MUST YOU PROGRAM THINGS YOU HAVE ACTUAL INTEREST IN, In the past I've tried just creating a website in html, css and js however I had no motivation because I had no use for it. But recently I've started creating Tron Dapps (Website, Database + smart contract) and I've been flying through it because it's something I really like. Don't force yourself! RE: New to Programming, Where do I begin? - SeaBull - 05-18-2019 Bash Academy is amazing, I love them. When I was learning about linux I used Linux Journy as well. Both good, top quality sites. I have more but i'll save those unless they're requested RE: New to Programming, Where do I begin? - mothered - 05-19-2019 Simply put, It depends what you wish to achieve. Select a programming language suited to your objective(s). RE: New to Programming, Where do I begin? - Sartux - 05-29-2019 (05-18-2019, 11:35 AM)mozfan4life Wrote: Hello! As you are good at the graphical/visual side of things it is probably best to learn something like Javascript (along with HTML and CSS) - it will allow you to use your graphical skills to build apps and websites that look really good. However, if you want to get into 'software' programming then think about python, but be aware it's not very graphical. As everyone has said though, you need to do something that interests you. If you want to learn how to program a game, go for unity. If you want to automate stuff, use python etc. etc. |
