Pretty sure this fits here, first post..
Had a 3 1/2 year old 2TB Seagate barracuda drive die on me, checked the warranty over the phone and it was well out of warranty but they said they could adjust the warranty if i provided a receipt showing i bought it within the last 2 years..
I found an old Amazon email, changed the details and forwarded it on to them.. and they honored it.. (This is UK) btw..

Yep, that's generally how warranty works. It's also an easy way to make sure you've always got warranty for every item you own.
My Razer mouse is about 3+ years old and I actually purchased it from the Razer store however I showed them a fake Amazon receipt and they honoured the warranty still.
