Yeah, it's pretty scary if you ask me, because most of these devices will have features like accessing the microphone/camera, changing the temperature of the house/water, turning the lights on/off and so on. And all of this will most likely be implemented insecurely, so in the near future cybercriminals could mess up your entire house, until the point you wouldn't even be able to stay in it anymore.
What's more alarming is that there is no simple solution to this problem

Agree.

Simply stated, anything connected to the Internet, Is susceptible to exploitation.

Yeah....domestic IOT attacks are scary but Industrial IOT attacks will keep you awake at night!

The main problem is that we treat technology as a god instead of a tool. I'm not one of those "phone bad" types, but when it comes to the point we are literally placing wiretaps into our home, we seriously need to take a step back and ask ourselves how much of this stuff is actually worth it
