Citizen Scientists Find New World with NASA Telescope - sunjester - 01-08-2019 Quote:Using data from NASA's Kepler space telescope, citizen scientists have discovered a planet roughly twice the size of Earth located within its star's habitable zone, the range of orbital distances where liquid water may exist on the planet's surface. The new world, known as K2-288Bb, could be rocky or could be a gas-rich planet similar to Neptune. Its size is rare among exoplanets - planets beyond our solar system. https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.php?feature=7313 RE: Citizen Scientists Find New World with NASA Telescope - mothered - 01-08-2019 It makes you wonder just how much they "don't know" about our solar system and beyond. I love reading new discoveries. RE: Citizen Scientists Find New World with NASA Telescope - Oni - 09-20-2019 It's bizarre to think that the images we see are what the planet probably looked like 226 years ago. You need to visit NASA and one of their telescopes but that's out of the budget. My daughter has a telescope, I bought it from the beginners' section but it's doing a good job, we love to study the Moon and the stars with it at night. It's a Celestron PowerSeeker 50 AZ that we got for 50 bucks and it's more than enough for a child. Maybe, in the future, we'll buy a professional one, if she'll still love to use them of course. I found it on https://www.paramountind.com/best-telescope-for-beginners/There are regular telescopes that can zoom far enough to see nebulas, meaning that you don't need a NASA telescope to find the extraterrestrials. Yeh technology now is crazy. It also makes you wonder why we have less cell phone footage of these UFO sightings than before. RE: Citizen Scientists Find New World with NASA Telescope - Drako - 09-25-2019 Modern tech is giving regular Joe's the opportunity to discover stuff like this. I will say habitable planet news is interesting and all, but unless there's a major overpopulation threat on Earth no crazy colonization efforts will be happening in our lifetime. It is nice to know we have options though. RE: Citizen Scientists Find New World with NASA Telescope - bender - 10-09-2019 Whaouh i like scientists research |
