I was thinking it would be a good idea to update the contact details on the user profile.

As you can see all of those are outdated, not many people use them.
My replacement suggestions:
XMPP/Jabber
Skype
IRC(You would put the channel)

Blame the MyBB team. I might update them, although very few people actually check those fields. I recommend having that information in your signature.

Just because you don't check it doesn't mean no one else does. And if people don't check it that's because in it's current state it isn't very useful.

I'm not blaming anyone, it was just an idea to make the profiles better.
+Signatures have limited space.
