Mobile Phone Boxing SE - maryhada - 11-28-2018

Hey all,

I've set up an SE for a mobile phone. I've contacted support, given my IMEI and SN and made a phantom issue with the phone. They have arranged a courier to pick it up. First SE of this nature so have a few questions:
-how likely is it the courier will open the package to check its contents
-once the 'phone' is in transit, should I turn the phone off and not use it? I would imagine the company would be able to track it using the IMEI and S/N if it was turned on
-with regard to packing the 'phone', any tips on what to put into the phone box to add weight/how to wrap it etc.

Thanks in advance

* Unless Instructed, a courier's job Is to pick up the package and deliver It.
* The IMEI number can be tracked to It's respective phone by certain authorities such as the police and phone carrier, so It's best to not keep It active.
*What's the make and model of the phone?

Huawei P20 pro. I've decided to bin the idea, as they could just blacklist the phone once they send me the replacement.

I thought you gave them an IMEI you bought. Thanks for the tip though, this seems kind of easy. If one would get an IMEI

No I was using my actual personal phone. I reckon I'll try it again using another IMEI though, it all depends on what courier you get so that's a pretty good chance in my books

How much does the phone weigh?

So, are there actually stories of authorities tracking IMEI numbers through phone carriers and getting to the person behind it?
It seems like too much trouble for a simple phone that's less than a thousand dollars. I feel like the authorities have higher priorities

They can and do, however a court order Is required and It must demonstrate good reason (probable cause) to Issue the warrant.

For the purpose of arresting those who've SEd a phone, It's extremely unlikely.
