Pick up from post office - DNA possible? - maryhada - 11-28-2018

Ordered a go pro from amazon, should be delivered during the day when I'm at work. Have to show ID at the post office to collect it but as far as I know no signature is needed. Had anyone done a DNA for this? Not sure if it'd work or not with cctv etc.

I could be wrong but in the past, when picking up items from the post office, even if they didn't require signature they'll take one anyways. Along with this, it will be marked as picked up at PO. One more thing, you can't even claim it was someone else at that point because they see your ID to ensure that you live at that address.

Not advisable, see if you can get a friend. Or try to claim it wasn't in the box. Maybe break into the box and make it look a little bit beat up and maybe say it wasn't in the box and that's how you got it from the carrier.

if this is an option , try to re-schedule the item for delivery on a day you are available. That way you can claim DNA and save yourself a headache.

Yeah I've casually asked them this before, they hold it until you collect, redelivery is not an option unfortunately. I'll have to go with empty box it seems. Cheers for the quick replies.

Upon presenting your ID, do they take a copy/photocopy or simply (visually) verify It and give you the package thereafter?

If It's the latter, It's certainly possible to DNA. It comes down to an error of judgement on their part and as such, they have no evidence It was "you" who collected the package. CCTV Is useless- It's not difficult to disguise your appearance.

Nope, they literally look at it and hand it back to you. Maybe I should dig out my fake moustache and sunglasses? 😂

In your experience how likely is it for then to contact the PO and start asking questions? I'd rather not let it get to the point of CCTV being checked tbh.

It's easily circumvented, but we'll leave the CCTV for now.

The above Is why the DNA will work. Who's to say they "accurately" checked It? There are no records kept as to "who" picked It up so as far as you're concerned, the post office have given your package to the wrong person. It comes down to human error on their part. They'll most likely be contacted, but given they do not have anything to solidify their procedure In package handling, they cannot conclude It was "you" who received It.

You're welcome, please do keep us updated.

I had a conversation a while back with a member on this board, with very similar circumstances to yours and he actually succeeded. I'll try and locate the thread.

That'd be great if you could mate, cheers. I didn't want to start a needless thread but couldn't see this question asked before so figured it was worth asking. I'd imagine it happens quite a bit outside the US.
