Desk PC - That's Right.. PC in a DESK - The Professor - 11-02-2018 I've seen some people doing this lately and was wondering if anyone had any experience of it themselves on here. I've been wanting to build one for a few years now and have blueprints drawn out. I just need the resources and money to get the materials. Have you ever tangled with building one of these? Post up some pictures if so! RE: Desk PC - That's Right.. PC in a DESK - natifix - 11-14-2018 I would love to build one. I can build anything out of anything including the tools to make said item. I wish I had some pics and some experience behind me on building desk computers, but I too have seen them and one who can easily fabricate, can make a fucking killing selling them pre made or some assembly required! Nice high end systems running 5-10 grand a pop... see thru acrylic, uv lights and reflective cooling, etc... Love the idea of making one completely submerged in mineral oil... ![]() If you need help or want help or ideas, Im really crafty and creative, would be easy to give ideas. Let us know what you did! PC in a DESK - Nyx - 11-14-2018 Never actually done it myself but they look incredible when done right. Someone on /r/DIY posted a walkthrough of their desk PC build and it looked super difficult, though the finished product was amazing looking. I consider having a desk PC as really the epitome of having a "battle station". RE: Desk PC - That's Right.. I'm a certified welder and have been fabricating for years. My only issue is the money required for the setup. I have drawn out blueprints and everything to make one and even had some money saved up. Life happens and that money is gone. I'm definitely going to build one some day. RE: Desk PC - That's Right.. In terms of the materials to build the desk, could you opt for cheap/second hand bits and pieces and refurbish? RE: Desk PC - That's Right.. I'm definitely going to build one some day. I think my issue is that I plan to run a custom water cool loop through the desk. Therefore if you buy things such as cheap wood, scuffed up wood, etc. it will make things look trashy in my opinion. If you're trying to drill out holes for lines to run through or even thread a hole in a piece of board, which is a pain in the balls, it would make it difficult or you'd get to a point in the build where you'd need to change plans. I've had a few tutorials give me some advice but you also need to realize one thing. You're plugged this into a direct power supply, you need to make sure everything is grounded as well. MOBO stand-offs and PSU's are generally grounded but if you have metal anything it could become a hot point and cause a fire. Just so many ifs/ands/or buts in the build its kind of sketchy to go cheap. RE: Desk PC - That's Right.. You've explained It extremely well and certainly know your stuff. RE: Desk PC - That's Right.. Even though metalworking is up your alley, I feel like doing it in wood would be much more suitable. I feel like you'll be disappointed in the "aesthetic" of a metal desk vs wood. That's just my thoughts, you know your tastes better than I do 100%. RE: Desk PC - That's Right.. Yea I'd make it out of wood but the structure would be metal. |
