It was a straight forward 'box was empty' so I'm not sure what inconsistency they could have identified and it was my first claim to boot so no plausible reason for any suspicion as far as I'm aware.

It's safe to say they've assessed a lot of claims of the exact same nature, many of which raised suspicion, hence they based yours on the same grounds. At the end of the day It succeeded and that's all that matters.
