There are a couple things that I have to tell you before you start doing this. Most hackers who try to infect you will be super nice. I'm not saying that all nice people are trying to infect you, but if they know what they are doing, they will find ways to manipulate your mind to get to trust them. Nice thread - i would say essential for a noob how start to be interest on how to remove a virus, and whithout entering on analisys of binary file. But you must need to update this thread - there is a tool that work whith sandboxies and find all hidden viruses - is called buster sandbox analyzer or bsa - http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=6557 For linux there are more possibilities to analyze malware like yaya and volatility . You forgot also to tell one thing -if you run the tool that you say on safe mode ,make sure to full the recycle bin and stop the windows to create a restore point in c:- in that way you can assure thet virus don't spread after your clean your windows.
