Yeah, I used to get a lot of broken electronics having worked in an e-waste sorting facility and my boss being super chill letting me take whatever I wanted. I got a bunch of stuff replaced with fake receipts. I never really thought to get better things with the same broken products.

I have many objects that I have at home are reconditioned by me ... the PC I am writing with now comes from a landfill XD...however I was thinking of another method ... if I took an object (suppose a ps4) and I sent it back saying I had the wrong object and I fill the case (with ice or other material to match the weight) would it work? obviously the item taken with SE cannot be sold

Yes, this would work. You have to be careful with opening it so it appears like it is unopened. Then just ask to return it. I would fill the weight with actual solid materials , not ice. The goal is to make it seem like it was unopened, and as close to the original weight as possible. You can sell the item as well, why not.

Further to @Filament's post above, when opening a box or case with the Intention of giving the appearance as though It's untouched, be sure to do It at the bottom. Sure, this Is stating the obvious, but easily disregarded by many SE'ers.

It's human nature to predominantly check the opening point(s)- being the top and In some cases at the sides, but seldom to flip It 180 degrees.

thank you very much for the advice ... how would you recommend opening a package? .. cutting the scotch with a small knife and then putting on another layer to close it would be fine?

A heat gun/paint stripper/ hairdryer has always been s viable option for me, for security seals. Paired with a very thing and sharp object also. Such a well made knife, or perhaps a Stanley.
