RE: Immortality, Curse or godsend? - Ignatius - 08-09-2018

I've pondered this myself. And ultimately, I think I'd do it. Not out of fear of death, or trying to gain all that I can, but to observe how this world(and beyond potentially) will progress. This is assuming that my consciousness and body, and soul if there is such a thing, remain intact of course. No use in living until the inevitable heat death of the universe if you're not actually alive.

Knowing myself, I wouldn't want to make any impact on history or the course of humanity either. However, since I'm not immortal, nor do I know anyone who is, there's no telling how somebody would change and react to their environment given enough time. Even then, I still think I'd go for the immortality though. My curiosity of such damn near infinite potential that is the universe would be too much to pass up.

I remember getting this thought exercise in grade school. Apparently you're not supposed to want it because death is natural and all, but honestly there's no downside as long as you don't get thrown in jail or something. Imagine being able to learn about stuff for eternity and becoming the wisest entity in existence

No, I would not want to become immortal. Because then death will turn into a dream.

Nature should be able to sort this out.
