1. Your reason can't be what you're trying to prove. That would be the same as "XMPP is a shit protocol because XMPP is a shit protocol." Hence why it's invalid.
2. This is actually valid and correct, good for you.
3. Would you mind pointing me or telling me who the "tonne" of people are that hate using it?

1) it's a valid reason, XMPP Is a poorly designed protocol and is thus shit.
2) ty, ily2.
3) i cba finding more, but hopefully these two shall suffice;

If you're so concerned with MS or anyone else find out anything about you, you're in some seedy shit anyways, and probably don't use their software in the first place.

This whole idea of "ooh big scary corp" is annoying.

How's that tinfoil treating your hair?

If you're so concerned about privacy, don't use the public internet, board your windows up, and reinforce your house with 10 inch thick steel walls and make it sound proof.

Sound like something an insane person would do?

So is complaining about privacy on the internet. It's a public space, no different than going to a library and listening to other peoples conversation.

Get over it.

Fuck Skype. Fuck Slack. Everyone move to Tox, a one hundred percent free, open-source communications program. Although still in some heavy development, it's very easy to use, yet very efficient. I use it with all of my friends.

Tox actually looks very appealing in general not just because it doesn't monitor, etc. I might give it a try one of these days but my worry is who owns it and are the owners actually committed to keeping it running, chat programs aren't easy to run when they get big.

We've had IRC multiple times in the past, all failed. Slack supports both IRC and XMPP (read the docs), which makes it a great and infinitely more user-friendly experience.

Regarding what @BlueScreen said, you can't disable that shit no matter how hard you try because they don't want you to, don't believe me? Run something like peerblock and you can see every time Windows pings home. They do more than keylog the browser, we don't even know about the full extent of this mass surveillance but they include taking screenshots every time you install something and keylogging everything you type in the start menu (when you search for files, etc). You are surrendering your privacy to a 3rd party company that uses you to make money. Hurr durr tinfoil hat but someone out there knows and has access to everything you've ever done and how can you think that it will never be used against you in any way?

I'll quote my old post from another thread where we talked about exactly the same topic.

(08-01-2015, 12:13 AM)blackhatcat Wrote: People like you make me angry, just because you say you have nothing to hide doesn't mean you should throw away your rights to privacy or not express opposition to mass surveillance.

If you have nothing to hide, then you wouldn't mind letting me read your emails, do you let anyone come in your house to look around or did you also take down your curtains because you have nothing to hide? The saying is that if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear.

Furthermore, if you have nothing to hide, then you don't have a life.
If someone looked hard enough into you they could always find something you're guilty of, a crime can always be found. Just because mass surveillance means that you are one in millions doesn't mean you're not affected, even if nobody cares about you now doesn't mean you won't ever run into someone with access to all of the data gathered and have it used against you.
