@Thread
I'm against MOTM. It's honestly just an extra feature with no use but giving people a false sense of satisfaction.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Plus spamming fest.

Its not really false satisfaction. Its completely legitimate. It gives people a relatively short term goal to strive for, and can really have a positive impact on the community.

I think what he's getting at is that the sense of satisfaction is only because of the approval of people on the internet who you don't personally know or haven't physically met.

Well by that logic, there is no point in being on an internet forum and attempting to gain ranks like Elite and Super Elite if you don't care about how the community perceives you.

But that's the point of what he said, its a false sense, but people still would go after it because though it may be false, it feels real, and people do care.

True. I don't care about ranks. I'm here for information, and some parts of the forum are for Elite's only and the like. I want what comes with the rank, not the rank itself.

That's why MOTM is pointless. It's just a title that does nothing but state a name.
The only point I can see for this is feeding competitiveness, but why do we need competition on a technology forum? That's just silly.

I love you because you get me.
I much rather prefer actual rewards given to actual accomplishments. Not a piece of text saying "Good job. You sat around your ass posting to get this award the most". (AKA: A fake reward given for barely any effort).

It's just useless fluff that will clutter up more room when we could think of something much better in it's stead.
I could even come up with a comparison on how a somewhat similar method is being put into video games to make the game "seem" good, even though it's in reality garbage.

A lot of us like competition. That's why we race when a new challenge is posted, why we brag about who knows what, and sadly why some put down others. Competition is a big part of just about everything, and MOTM has literally no negative effects. To those who say there will be more spam, MOTM isn't chosen by the one with the most posts, but the one who contributes the most.

And how would contribution be counted? There's many, various types of contribution. So what? Keep track of all of them, then weigh which is more valued, then measure up?

I'm not saying it's negative, I'm saying it's silly.
Implementing such a thing is pointless. That's what I'm arguing about. It's pointlessness not it's downsides.

So it's a nomination system? Is it allowed to nominate yourself? Because I can see that backfiring.
