Not at all.

Any Inexpensive Item from the same category.

I just ordered a $30 package of skateboard parts under a separate identity to act as the "wrong item" for my $100 skateboard. I'll let you know how it goes.

While I was browsing on the gopro page on amz, under the "Related to items you've viewed" section was a camera bag which is:
1. cheap
2. dispatched by amz
3. same category? (not a gopro specific camera bag, just an amz branded regular camera bag though)
4. exact same stated weight!
Item package dimension ‎22.9 x 11 x 5.9 centimetres
Package weight ‎0.51 Kilograms
Item package dimension ‎20 x 18 x 10.6 centimetres
Package weight ‎0.51 Kilograms

Does that fulfil the requirements for a WIR?

Don't they have cctv which show clearly what is being picked, packed and dispatched though?
Could this be tackled somehow by selecting the "gift"/amazon box option so it is not visible from the outside? Or this special request only makes it more trackable?

Or maybe I just have to find something matching to the item weight and size and claim manufacture packing error instead?

How much variance In weight?

i have no idea, the website doesn't tell you the weight. I'll just add dry ice to compensate for the difference in weight.

Question about WIR: What happens when you fail a WIR? do they threaten legal action?

I think you got the whole idea wrong. The weights are supposed to be similar so the company cannot tell the difference between the two items.

Disregard the dry Ice.

It will obviously sublimate when the company receives and weighs the return.

WIR worked, even though one package was 4lbs and the other was 7lbs. They blamed FedEx for mixing up the two packages, and then offered a refund.

Wow! Congratulations on your success.

If only every SE was as simple as that.

Well done.
