That still sounds really promising! Congratulations if the other spot pulls through.

Hey thanks, I'm pretty pleased either way. I never thought I would make it that far. Just proved to myself I'm capable of more than I think

That's a really positive way to look at it, I'm glad to hear!

I'm struggling with the job market myself, and achievements like that aren't to be ignored.

There are no doubts, that hi-tech is the most promising field of business nowadays. And even if field of business is not 100 % related to hi-tech, it's still should have been provided by website, applications, in-corporate network security levels, etc. And for example, companies like [Link Redacted] can suggest any of us - development, or backend support of company's servers, provide any kind of security solutions for websites, etc. It's pretty important to choose the right niche of IT before you started your actual job.

the time gap doesn't really matter as long as you can justify it properly

Hey, how did this journey end? Did you get the job or some other job?

I just find myself in a similar situation, found this age old thread. Due to my colorful employment history in the past, I'll probably just cook up a resume from scratch and hire people to be fake references.

For people interested, I have solid skills in a particular industry and I'm really good at it. But I don't have any university degrees or consistent job experience in the field. So for me it's a case of getting the job (or at least getting the interview) and none will be the wiser.

i wrote too much here so heres the shorter version. im assiming its entry level help-desk. thats great as it allows you to expand your experience and hands on with other IT related jobs when help-desk is slow. most people i know just started in help desk and just sorta raised through the ranks in a specialty task. i was the only help desk for 4 locations (3 remotely supported) to virtualization adoption/support (2006) that took me more into a systems/server administration role. i also virtualized crappy in house 16 bit applicaitons the mech-engs still used, documented my heart out in the IT only ITSM and the 5 facility intrana site.

blah blah blah, play to your strength and things you ENJOY. and the work is great. help desk can be tough but its really the best trial by fire.

let the resume reflect you comprehend the job @ hand. in the interview, let your social skills shine. many people who hire for IT are always worried the "best resumes" usually end u being "that type" of nerd. socially awkward, innapropriate social discussions, poor hygiene,  condescending,

not able to "read the room" types.  so just (casually) pay attention to the interviwer, dont be werid and just relax (if possible) .

if its the IT admin or VP of OPs doing the interview, they wan more Help Desk someone who insanti-social,can respect the end users , even if they arent in the best social behavior, documents everything and doesnt need to be told what to do  on a daily basis  after month on the job.

the first month youll be asking all  the quesitons, but after that, they expect you to be keeping help desk contained or at least improved, from bothering the higher ups.

im too tired to re-read this bullshit i said, but ill just share my "help-desk" cover page paragraph from years ago.

Quote:In reviewing the attached resume, I hope you will see I have acquired valuable experience in all
facets of troubleshooting, installations, and maintenance for various desktop and server
operations, hardware, and especially software.

I possess a unique talent for delivering highly
complex technical information into terms and concepts that the end users can easily
understand. Furthermore, I am multi-task oriented, enjoy a challenge, and continually stay
informed of the latest news and developments in the IT field. When confronted with anything I
may lack a complete understanding, I research solutions quickly, and all while never performing
any task I don’t know the exact result that will come from it.
If you are seeking an IT professional who has excellent people and problem solving skills and
can easily provide excellent support that your company demands and deserves, then please
consider employing me to fill that role

Yeah it's not. Smile

Good tips though. But in my experience, for entry-level jobs like this it doesn't really matter what your CV or resume says. You just gotta know your stuff. And if they still won't hire you, the internet is full of freelancing helpdesk opportunities.

You're certainly correct, but unfortunately It doesn't work that way In my locality.

I have extensive knowledge In the IT sector (autodidacticism/self-taught) but without any certifications to my name, employers Ignore my applications.
