Curious if anyone that's boxed them has gotten any rebills? Plan on cancelling my card to get a new one after the refund hits.

I've hit Target In-store countless times over a 30+ year period, all of which have succeeded without subsequent Issues.
I've used the wrong Item received, missing Item and boxed them.
They're extremely simple to SE.

I'm planning on doing an iPad Pro with Target. Here is my game plan--actually buy an iPad Pro from Target using a virtual CC or a CC i am willing to cancel, then buy a knock off or broken iPad Pro off craigslist, go into Target with the receipt, swap out the new ipad with the broken or generic one, go on a busy Friday, have the return girl at the desk process my refund right then and there.
Now does anyone know if Target will check serial numbers for higher priced refunds/returns like this method suggests? I am worried about if I get to the return desk and they say, 'oh this is a high priced item, i am going to have to ask you to go to the electronic department to get this sorted'. In which case, I think I'd say, thanks buy i've changed my mind.
If anyone has any advice on this front, please let me know.

Obviously IPads and the like were not around back then, so In this case, I'm referring to recent SEs.
