This ^^ Is a good example why "failure" In not classed as such, not In It's entirety.

Simply put, It all comes down to experience. The more you attempt to SE and the more you fail, the better you will expand your knowledge. You need to take the positive out of the negative- failure Is a learning curve that assists In what should not be done the next time around.

I remember my first food SE failure. Tried to SE papajohns, and I failed terribly.
First mistake: I called 2 weeks after the order
Second Mistake: I stuttered a lot and sounded very unconfident
Third Mistake: I let the worker control the conversation
Needless to say, I've patched those errors. Smile

Yes, we all learn by experience.

Taking control, assuming an authoritative figure and most Importantly being confident without hesitation, all play a significant role In the likely hood of a successful outcome.

Something I believe all social engineers should experience and grow from.
