RE: Which OS should I Master? - Imagined Self - 09-28-2017 yea I hear you all... I am studying a lot... I got 5 Ebooks on kali - network hacking, alone... and thus far its helpful but the frustration is growing as I attempt the basics in practice and fail repeatedly... Im copying what others do, and failing... so its really upsetting. Win 3. lol yea... Mind you I was like 13 years old... My father was the geek, I just met him and moved in with him, I wasnt able to absorb much normalities due to irl stuff out of my control. I feel WAY behind now... I hate abusive control... so what ever restricts, controls, runs behind your back and knowledge,... does things without your permission, etc... is a system I wish to avoid. I like linux and have been learning it for the past few years. I like win 7 but with my ignorance, some research suggests its no longer safe to use. Unfortunately, its the only OS I have that my music software will run on so my studio computer is kinda stuck in the past. Linux however, seems to have opened a new door for me. but again, im really frustrated... with the society is the way it is, and all the restrictions, i just kinda wanna thorw it all away and burn it, and move to a new planet. idk why. it sucks being alone, learning alone, and then when you ask for help, everyone is rather rude or insulting or just a plain douchebag... at least i have not experienced that here. RE: Which OS should I Master? - Ecks - 09-28-2017 Like others I would suggest if you want to learn Linux, start with Mint or Ubuntu and once your comfortable move onto distro's such as OpenSUSE and Fedora, then onto Debian or Arch. I myself use Mint as my everyday OS, it is very easy to transfer from Windows to Mint and any issues you come across you can find a solution on Google instantly (if it works on Ubuntu it works on Mint but not vice versa). OS's such as Kali or Tails, I would never run them as a main OS, they work perfectly fine as a Live OS or a VM. RE: Which OS should I Master? - Imagined Self - 09-28-2017 Thanks again for your help Mint was one of the first linux distros I tried actually, along with ubuntu... they are both amazing but I cannot say, I KNOW THEM... I can use them. Install them, etc. I understand BASIC linux commands, how to install, compress, etc... using hte terminal is one of the coolest things I have had to learn btw... I never even knew!! lol ... for years, gui was the way to go and i had no idea, computers worked this way. I still have ubuntu installed, mint i removed or replaced with ubuntu... I just like the desktop and the layout of the folders, etc... you all have some good advice and I really appreciate it!!! Im kinda stubborn though, and Kali is the newest thing I am learning atm with linux... like many of you have mentioned though, to learn other things... and some I have... Kali is the challenge and hacking is what I want to do... so I think I kinda want to stick with Kali, at least I can say for now, LINUX is my main OS... I am reading this kali book jsut created by the guys that created backtrack... and I am amazed!!! by many things, including how complex unix/linus really CAN BE but also how simple it is once you understand why... I love linux... Im hooked. I cant believe for ten years I have been plugged into the matrix unaware ... until I get a new harddrive / computer lab, I wont be installing or at least, uninstalling any linux OS... and I am reading my books... but that will never provide experience. RE: Which OS should I Master? - Oni - 09-28-2017 Debian is my preferred flavor and I've used it for years. RE: Which OS should I Master? - --null-- - 09-29-2017 Ubuntu is pretty nice, kali if you're a script kiddie lol RE: Which OS should I Master? - Blink - 09-29-2017 (09-28-2017, 07:40 PM)Oni Wrote: Debian is my preferred flavor and I've used it for years. I'm actually gonna be setting up Debian on I'll my school's computers. RE: Which OS should I Master? - FuckLeFeds - 09-29-2017 Qubes OS!! I love this operating system. I don't think it gets enough credit. Debian is good too. I like Parrot OS, I actually use it for my laptop - it's based off Debian and has some neat software packages and a nice UI in my opinion. Parrot OS also has wifi tools like aircrack and all that. I'd definitely choose it over Kali. Kali runs everything with root privileges by default. This includes your web browser. If your browser is vulnerable to arbitrary code execution, the attacker could possibly gain root access to your machine. Kinda ironic if you think about it. Those In the security side of things, should give Qubes OS a try, you won't be disappointed. I also agree with Parrot OS. I find It to be very stable and responsive. Other OSes worthy of mentioning are Kodachi Linux, Privatix Live, Discreete Linux, MOFO Linux, Tails and Whonix. EDIT: Info added. RE: Which OS should I Master? - Sunny. - 09-30-2017 FreeBSD obviously takes dominance over Linux, so if you want to master a Linux distribution, I suggest scrapping that idea and going with FreeBSD. That is just my opinion, though. If you want to master an operating system, go with any open source one. RE: Which OS should I Master? - Jubaied - 10-06-2017 kali linux, its mainly used everywhere |
