That's understandable. Not everyone has readily-available funds.
I could purchase a group this minute, but It's the caliber and activity of members (within the group) In keeping It running at It's optimal state that's of concern. I'm not targeting this community per say, but more so stating a fact that we're all busy, therefore Inevitable/unforeseen circumstances do happen with our personal affairs- and as such may have a negative Impact In being actively Involved with the group.
That said, there's always time for everything. It just needs to be managed accordingly.

@mothered has done a great job of expressing my concerns. We've been extremely relaxed with groups lately and there aren't even official requirements in terms of activity. When I pull the plug on a group, it's generally because I haven't seen the leader in months or there is literally no discussion coming from it. If someone has a great idea and shows initiative, I'm happy to sell them a group at a discount, relative to the effort they've put in. As for a giveaway? Highly unlikely, although it's something I can do if members insist.

I don't want the job of regulating the kickstarters. I have no problems with people doing that, though.

I think that would be a great idea. You may lose a little money on selling the group itself by giving it away but think of all the excess activity it would help generate due to it being somewhat exclusive and pretty much topic oriented amongst the close friends on here. might draw some conversation away from skype, discord etc and drop it back on the site.
just my honest opinion but if you did host this i would put some pretty strict requirments on the members allowed to enter

One of which, (for example) can be members who've demonstrated a consistent form of activity around the forums during ex-amount of time. As such, It will Increase the likely hood of the group's longevity.
Of course, competency with the nature of the group Itself Is a must.
