Won't let you see stuff if someone has blocked it. How do you get around that?

It depends what's blocked.
Facebook Is heavily used on It's sharing functionality, so just because someone has blocked (for example) their friends list and made It private, It doesn't necessarily mean It Is private. If you find their "mutual friends" and those accounts are set to public, due to the friends being "mutual", you then have the private account's friends.

Interesting, but if I can't see their friends how do I find their mutual friends? Because with this it just says something like 'Sorry we couldn't display'. Also it still means their comments and posts are still blocked.

Yes, they (FB) don't seem to appreciate the vulnerabilities brought to their attention.
It's only when they're exploited, that they begin to take It seriously.

I have an Facebook account, which will be "removed soon".
Just want to notice this, fake account or not, you still have to be carefull. With well coded tools, AI or a researcher your information can still be at stake, EVEN when it's a fake account.
An random example:
You are a person who like rock music, but doesn't want to spend to much money on festivals. You dislike asians because you had a car accident where the driver was asian.
You're someone who likes women that have blonde hair and blue eyes (extracted from a dating site for example). You are a hilary supporter.
With some good analytics from Facebook, if you'd like photo's of women with blonde hair and blue eyes, share articles about supporting Hilary and post a racist comment about asians than I could calculate chances and (possibly) match your information to Facebook's information. Than if it's a match extract further information from Facebook.
People this is just a random example, I don't mean anything racist against asians with the example.
