Imo multiplayer games like csgo/dota/h1z1/rust/ark/gta5 and singleplayer games with modders activity Skyrim/Fallout/Stalker if you want to check most popular games on steam right now, just go to steam shop and scroll for statistics

It depends on what you like. I loved Diablo 2, that's why I am playing Path Of Exile right now. If you like Hack 'n Slash MMO's that's the one to go for.
GTA series are pretty good if you like single player.
Spec Ops: The Line is also nice to play.
If you're looking for a better war simulator than Battlefield, COD, I can recommend the Arma series (available on HumbleBundle right now)

Black Ops 3, Rocket League, and Ark are pretty good games. If you don't like Ark try Rust its similar in a few ways.

Have you considered The Elder Scrolls Series? Or maybe The Witcher Trilogy? If your into Multiplayer Survival, I'd suggest games like Rust, DayZ Or Arma.
