Religion do we need it anymore? - Vitani - 04-10-2013

I just think, of all the deaths, diseases, examples: Cancer, aids, etc.. and all the innocent deaths and natural disasters, how can their be a god-based religion, wouldn't the creator be able to stop happenings like this? And if he was able to, and didn't, I think he is an asshole.

For most of the creationist stories their god would need to be able to impact the physical world no matter what.

So he's an asshole.

"You both get sick with some curable illness but only known to be done with medicine pick one Pray, or get help from a doctor"

I'll answer that for him

The wisest thing to do would be getting help from a doctor. I see a lot of religious people going to the doctor first before praying. Most of them do go to the doctor first, and if they know there is no cure or no chance of recovery at all they will just pray. Same goes to 50/50 sick people.

Sigh, I can't put my rage into words so i'll just ask you this.

If you know when your god can "kill" cancer and aids with your religion shoot me a post here with documented medical reports, and links from official studies. (Oh wait, you can't just shows with A low budget that faked everything for cash)

Not to mention science is getting close to finding cures for these things but they have cured lots of things in the past, just no one cares about them anymore because they're not relevant because they're cured, more than any God has ever done for the human race. (Small Pox, Hepatitis Vaccines, modern medicine for many illness) you just have to take the blind fold off.

If god would really exist why does he let us suffer?
Why does he let people be punished for no reason?

It wasn't a necessity in the beginning. You people don't understand the difference between a necessity and change. If there was no religion in the beginning, we wouldn't be where we are now. Maybe we'd be ahead (most likely), or behind. It's not worse, just different.

Religion will never fade, at least not completely. People will always need to read a comforting bible to tell them everything is okay. They will always try and "pray" away any illnesses or mishaps.

Does society as a whole need it? No. Do individuals need it? Definitely. Without religion, some people would go crazy. They need some comforting stories to tell them they will go some place special after they die. I'm not hating on anyone's religion, but that is the truth of the matter. People are scared of death. If they "believe," they will be essentially rewarded.

No. We don't need religion.

To be perfectly honest, we have never needed it. All it does is cause problems and conflicts which are pointless and incredibly stupid.

I respect my religion, but I can most definetly live without it.
