RE: Google's Modular Smart Phone - BurritoBeans - 06-09-2016 I like the whole idea behind the Project Ara thing, and I think I saw somewhere that some other companies were going to do similar stuff, but I don't know how well it would all work out. Modules staying in place, companies forcing you to use their own standard expansions in the end which cost a lot, etc. Still, I'd be willing to buy one if the price was decent, I always like checking out new tech and this seems like an idea that could stick around if done right. To me it depends on pricing, as well. Being able to upgrade parts on the fly and at an affordable price would be great. Scroll down a little on their "our journey" page: https://phonebloks.com/journey RE: Google's Modular Smart Phone - insidious - 06-12-2016 (06-11-2016, 03:58 AM)superMAUS Wrote:(05-29-2016, 05:24 PM)sleaze Wrote: Hadn't seen this until now, but this looks just like the 'phonebloks' idea from 2013 Google/Alphabet has become this behemoth that's been eating up alot of little companies to further their agenda and expand their prospects. Everytime I see one of these startup-esque companies like Phonbloks or something, there's bound to be Google lurking around the corner with another product similiar to it. It's like the Bell Labs of our day RE: Google's Modular Smart Phone - J O L L Y - 09-25-2016 Honestly, I think the idea is great, but I'm very skeptic. One the main problems I see with this is the size ; Most modern phones are very carefully designed to put as much as they can in a (mostly) tiny case.Modular means that the phone will be bigger and possibly heavier than other phones, just like desktop PC's and laptops. Also being this modular means that it will be easier to access and hack a phone, that's the reason Apple makes their products closed and difficult to modify. Now if Google can show that they can make this work then I'll consider looking into this. RE: Google's Modular Smart Phone - Dean Winchester - 10-02-2016 This idea has been snapped anyway. The project was shut down. |
