I think a majority of people who've spent enough time on the internet should have an idea that what you say is true though. It was certainly one of the first things I learned when I started out on SL. RE: What do you think of doxing? - meow - 05-09-2016 Doxing is an activity for skids; it's a method that unskilled losers use to get back at people that hurt their feelings because they can't do anything that actually requires skill. The only time I dox people is when I'm paid to do it, who doesn't like money? RE: What do you think of doxing? - BurritoBeans - 05-09-2016 While I don't like the concept of doxing - I've always found it to be silly - in the end it's an issue for both people. It's an issue for the one who's doxing the other as it's not a good activity, but it's an issue for the one who's being doxed as they're just leaving info on the net that anyone from a person who just reads files on how to run scripts and runs them to someone who can mess your stuff up can go around and toy with. Personally, I wouldn't touch doxing with a trusty 10-foot pole unless it was something serious that happened to a friend or relative, and even then I'd probably regret it in 20 minutes after the rush of whatever gives me rage wears off, leading me to feel like a complete dumbass for the rest of my life/memory of it. So overall, yeah not a good thing but whatever, people do it anyways. If your a POS who got there feelings hurts and use it for that then yes its stupid. Usually those don't count anyway because there usually unorganized and stupid and it just leaks a bunch of unverified useless info. RE: What do you think of doxing? - Inori - 05-09-2016 It really depends on what people do with the info. I sent 26 pizzas to my principal's house in grade 7, and it was hilarious. RE: What do you think of doxing? - DarkMuse - 05-09-2016 Doxing is a tool. If you have your information set correctly and strategically, you should have little to nothing to worry about. However, I do not believe it's very moral but besides that, it's just a shitty thing to do. The internet is beautiful and that we can be anonymous to most and are able to share our thoughts and ideas accordingly. Possibly ruining someone's life is very serious and should not be treated lightly. There are some situations that may warrant it but they should be given to the appropriate individuals. You want to handle justice? Do you really think you have the right to handle someone else's life REGARDLESS of what ever they've done? Forcing your own personal solutions onto someone else is dangerous and ignorant. Think before you do. Sleep on it. Talk to a diversity of others. RE: What do you think of doxing? - mothered - 05-09-2016 It's depends what you plan to do with the Information obtained. Doxing Is seen as something that's frowned upon, when In fact It can be very useful when performed In the right circumstances. The police dox all the time to try and find missing persons and lost loved ones. By no means Is that an act of malicious Intent. I dox, social engineer and hack on a daily basis. The "reasons" behind my acts are what's of Importance, and not the "act" Itself. RE: What do you think of doxing? - Wildfire - 05-09-2016 I've done a bit of a doxing in my days on this earth, but looking back on it, I'm not proud of it at all. Causing people stress and annoyance is not funny, it's not a way to "get back" at them. Just don't do it. If you do, just remember; Karma is a bitch, and it will get you back. RE: What do you think of doxing? - Oni - 05-09-2016 Google is easy to use and most information can be found publicly (or is easily available). Using this information maliciously is despicable and makes you a coward. RE: What do you think of doxing? - Silence - 05-09-2016 Depending on the depth of the DOX, I don't really care. If it's just stuff you found online about ME, cool. But when you get family members involved, SSN, CCN, etc. then you just need to find something better to do with your life. Albeit I do know a few people that piss me off and I wouldn't care if they got a DOX that listed nearly everything about them, still don't really care about it. Most of the time it's all public, no sense in shitting bricks. Just get ready for some pizzas, hookers and mariachi bands. |
