Well, if you are working on duel booting, you can do a simple search and find a trove of documentation on how to duel boot any OS you want with your win8. Though, on a personal note, I find that winblows works best in a virtual environment better then as a core install.

I would ultimately recommend though that you try working with virtual boxes which in this case the easiest one that I presently use is VirtualBox. It's free and easy to use.

it can be a good idea to install a VM (Virtul Machine) and install your OS on it so it would be easier for you to use many OS at the same time. Smile

I have no clue about most stuff computer related, so I do not know how to boot from a USB, or anything like that.

To boot from a USB drive you first would need to download an ISO image of whichever Linux distro it is that you're wanting to use, then you need to write it to a USB drive (generally 8GB is sufficient enough.) To actually boot from the drive you need to boot into BIOS and change the boot order. I personally think it is much easier just booting from a disk so you don't have to work about writing your image to a USB stick. But if you have never used Linux before I would definitely start out with a virtual machine. If you go to DistroWatch.com you have a very wide variety to choose from. Good Luck!

For you I would suggest installing Gentoo, if successful it is a great learning experience. http://www.gentoo.org/
